Corning Everon Cat.6A S/FTP 550/23s Copper LAN Cable — 500 m Drum

Corning Everon S/FTP 550/23s Cat.6A, part number CCXEDR-D0047-C003-L6, is a professional four-pair twisted-pair copper cable for permanent structured cabling systems. Its solid 23 AWG copper conductors are designed for indoor Ethernet networks, links to networking equipment and reliable business connectivity.

This model is specified for operation up to 550 MHz and comes with a LSZH/FRNC jacket in blue, supplied on a 500 m drum. It is suitable for 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GBASE-T) when the complete channel is designed, installed and tested using compliant components.

The 550/23s variant has a Dca-s1,d1,a1 reaction-to-fire classification and comes on a 500 m drum. It is suited to projects specifying this particular fire-performance class.

Construction and Key Benefits

The S/FTP design combines aluminum-laminated foil around each individual twisted pair with an overall tinned copper braid. This construction limits crosstalk and external electromagnetic interference. To obtain the intended shielding performance, use compatible shielded connecting hardware and a correctly designed bonding and grounding system.

• Cat.6A: suitable for 10GBASE-T Ethernet channels up to 10 Gbps when the entire link meets the required specifications.
• 550 MHz: manufacturer-specified operating frequency for S/FTP 550/23s.
• Solid copper 23 AWG: dependable electrical performance for permanent links.
• S/FTP shielding: pair-by-pair foil screening and an overall copper braid.
• LSZH/FRNC, Dca-s1,d1,a1: low-smoke, halogen-free jacket with the specified fire-reaction class.
• 500 m drum: practical packaging for installing multiple separate network runs.

Technical Specifications

Typical Applications

This Category 6A LAN cable can be used in offices, server rooms, data centres, enterprise networks, Wi-Fi access-point installations and IP surveillance systems. It is particularly appropriate for permanent horizontal structured cabling between a telecommunications cabinet and work areas or other fixed network outlets.

During installation, maintain suitable bend radii, protect the jacket from damage, use Cat.6A-rated connecting hardware and test completed links. The LSZH/FRNC designation does not by itself make this cable suitable for exposed outdoor installation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Ethernet speeds does this cable support?

Corning Everon Cat.6A is suitable for 1 Gigabit Ethernet and 10GBASE-T applications up to 10 Gbps. Actual results depend on the equipment, cabling length, termination quality and the performance of the complete channel. Drum length is not the maximum permitted length of a single Ethernet link.

Can it be used for Power over Ethernet?

Yes. Corning specifies compatibility with PoE, PoE+ and 4PPoE under IEEE 802.3af/at/bt, including systems rated up to 90 W at the power-sourcing equipment. Cable bundle heating, link length and equipment requirements should be considered during design.

Which connectors and patch panels should be used?

Use compatible shielded Cat.6A RJ45 connectors, Keystone jacks and patch panels, with appropriate bonding and grounding.

What do the CPR class and drum length mean?

Dca-s1,d1,a1 identifies the cable's reaction-to-fire classification; suitability for a specific building depends on project requirements and applicable regulations. The 500 m drum is intended for multiple separate cable runs, not a single Ethernet channel of that length.
