Alistar 1G 1000BASE-BX BiDi WDM Optical SFP Module, 1SM, SC, 20 km, TX1310/RX1550 nm, DDM
The Alistar 1G 1000BASE-BX BiDi WDM optical SFP module is designed for building Gigabit fiber-optic links with data transmission rates of up to 1 Gbps. The module supports BiDi WDM (Bidirectional Wavelength Division Multiplexing) technology, which allows data transmission and reception over a single single-mode optical fiber at distances of up to 20 km.
The transceiver transmits at 1310 nm and receives at 1550 nm. For proper operation, it must be paired with a compatible TX1550/RX1310 nm module. The SC Simplex optical connector provides a reliable connection for a single-mode fiber patch cord, while DDM (Digital Diagnostic Monitoring) support enables real-time monitoring of the transceiver’s key operating parameters.
Main advantages
- Data rate up to 1 Gbps — supports the 1000BASE-BX Gigabit Ethernet standard.
- Single-fiber transmission — BiDi WDM technology reduces the number of optical fibers required.
- Transmission distance up to 20 km — an effective solution for connecting remote network locations.
- SC Simplex connector — a reliable and widely used optical interface.
- DDM support — monitoring of temperature, voltage, laser current, and optical signal levels.
- Hot-swappable design — the module can be installed or replaced without shutting down compatible equipment.
- MSA compatibility — suitable for many switches, routers, and media converters equipped with an SFP port.
BiDi WDM technology
BiDi WDM technology enables bidirectional data transmission over a single single-mode optical fiber by using different wavelengths for transmitting and receiving signals.
This module operates as follows:
- Transmit wavelength (TX): 1310 nm
- Receive wavelength (RX): 1550 nm
To establish a working optical link, a paired TX1550/RX1310 nm module must be installed at the opposite end. Two identical TX1310/RX1550 nm modules will not establish a connection.
DDM function
Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) provides information about the current status of the transceiver through the interface of compatible network equipment.
The following parameters can be monitored:
- module temperature;
- supply voltage;
- laser bias current;
- transmitted optical power;
- received optical signal level.
Monitoring these parameters helps detect signal degradation, excessive optical loss, and potential equipment faults in time.
Applications
- Gigabit corporate networks;
- fiber-optic backbone links;
- IP video surveillance systems;
- switch connections between buildings;
- server rooms and data centers;
- network media converters;
- industrial and telecommunications networks.

How to choose the paired module
A single-fiber optical link requires a paired 1000BASE-BX BiDi TX1550/RX1310 nm module. Both transceivers should support a data rate of 1 Gbps, transmission distances of up to 20 km, and operation over single-mode optical fiber.
Connection recommendations
- Install the SFP module in a compatible SFP port on a switch or media converter.
- Connect a single-mode fiber-optic patch cord with an SC connector.
- Install the paired TX1550/RX1310 nm module at the opposite end of the link.
- Check the link indicators and DDM parameters.
Frequently asked questions
Can two identical modules be used?
No. BiDi WDM technology requires a pair of modules with complementary TX and RX wavelengths.
Which optical fiber is required?
Single-mode SM 9/125 µm optical fiber is required.
What is DDM used for?
DDM provides digital monitoring of temperature, voltage, laser current, transmitted optical power, and received optical signal level, helping detect potential faults in time.
Is the module compatible with media converters?
Yes. The module is compatible with Gigabit media converters, switches, and other equipment with an SFP port that supports the 1000BASE-BX BiDi standard.
The Alistar 1G 1000BASE-BX BiDi WDM optical SFP module with TX1310/RX1550 nm wavelengths is a reliable solution for building stable Gigabit fiber-optic networks over distances of up to 20 km using a single single-mode fiber. DDM support and broad compatibility make it suitable for professional networking applications.
